Ecommerce Redesign

Transforming the User Experience for GearLaunch Print-On-Demand
Platform

Company Overview.
GearLaunch is a leading print-on-demand (POD) eCommerce platform enabling businesses and entrepreneurs to design, sell, and ship customized products (apparel, home decor, and accessories) without inventory constraints. GearLaunch offers comprehensive fulfillment solutions, supporting users from product design to delivery.
Objective.

Redesign the GearLaunch Ecommerce website to:

  • Resolve usability and design challenges
  • Drive engagement, discoverability, and conversions
  • Build a cohesive, user-centered experience
Key Challenges.
  • Cluttered Visual Design: Overloaded pages made it difficult for users to focus, with products lacking clear categorization.
  • Poor Visual Hierarchy: Important elements like promotions or categories were easily missed.
  • Suboptimal User Flow: Product customization was unintuitive, and search/filter options were hard to use.
  • Low Engagement: High bounce rates and low search feature usage.
Research & Analysis.
  • Heuristic Evaluation: Identified pain points in interaction and visual structure.
  • Data Review: Analyzed user behavior data revealing high bounce rates and weak search adoption.
  • Stakeholder Interviews: Aligned user experience design objectives with business needs.
Insights
Solution & Design Strategy.
Design Strategy Pillars
  • Simplified Visual Layout: Enhanced focus and reduced decision fatigue.
  • Highlighting Core Features: Prominently showcased product customization and trust factors.
  • Streamlined Shopping Flow: Enabled easy product discovery and personalization.
  • Improved Mobile Responsiveness: Ensured accessibility across devices.
Design & Iteration Process
  • Wireframes: Developed low-fidelity sketches for layout and navigation.
  • High-Fidelity Prototypes: Built in Figma, iterated on homepage, category pages, and footer design.
  • Usability Testing: Conducted with participants, validated improvements, and iterated based on real feedback.
  • Accessibility Assurance: Adjusted design for compliance and inclusivity.
Tools Used.
After setting the IA, I created low-fidelity wireframes in Figma and Sketch to visualize the app’s structure. These wireframes covered key screens, focusing on functionality to allow easy product selection, customization, and real-time design previews.

Design System.
As I was building a responsive mobile and web application, I decided to reuse design components by creating a design system containing over 500 components, 10+ text styles, and a comprehensive color stack. I also included support for light and dark modes to enhance user experience.
High Fidelity Screens.
With all my research findings, Insights and data points I started working on UI design for this project. First I designed responsive mobile application so that I can scale it to web.
Results & Impact.
  • Increased website engagement by 40%, as users spent more time exploring categories and products.
  • Improved conversion rates by 25%, with more users completing the checkout process after redesign.
  • Reduced bounce rate by 18%, thanks to better layout structure and clearer navigation.
  • Boosted search and filter usage, making it easier for users to find and customize products.
  • 90% of test users found the new design easier to navigate and more visually appealing, indicating high usability satisfaction.
Conclusion.
The GearLaunch redesign resulted in significantly improved usability, deeper engagement, higher conversions, and positive user sentiment. By addressing design pain points and building a responsive, intuitive experience, GearLaunch positioned itself as a more effective print-on-demand platform, benefiting both new and returning customers.
